Concept and Format
Treasure Time is based on a classroom model. A
group of six to ten children work with Mrs. Treasure, a magical,
zany, nurturing, teacher-type of character who is full of fun and surprises.
Sometimes Mrs. Treasure brings her sidekick Professor Echo, a crusty old parrot who banters and interacts
with the eclectic group of book characters and kids who comprise the Treasure
Time Family. Mrs. Treasure is a nurturing, caring and constant role model for
kids.
The show is
about books and bringing them to life through the arts. It also touches
upon the environment, self-concept, spontaneity and creative play. Mrs. Treasure reads and discusses the featured
book to a cast of children
who then act out the story and the underlying theme of the
day. .Music is an important part of Treasure Time, and
kids can join in the songs and games of Treasure Time wherever they are.
The Treasure Time Song is sung at the beginning of every show, and it is a self
affirmation:
You are a treasure, you are a
gem,
You are a special sparkle of life.
You shine in your glory, you tell your own story,
You are precious, you are unique
Treasure Time
is produced
by Lee Drescher. Each half-hour, stand-alone lesson can be woven
into an ongoing series. A lexicon
of songs, games and activities grows from show to show, to provide
school teachers, day care providers and parents
with a variety of tools for engaging children in reading and related
artistic multi-sensory activities. Treasure Time has enjoyed a seven year run on local cable in an affluent suburb of Boston,
MA. Treasure Time is now being shown on other local stations as well and live
programs are being conducted in schools and libraries. All books featured are
current and available. |
